What We Believe
- Jesus is God’s Son, born of a virgin, died, & rose again on the 3rd day.
- Jesus is the ONLY Way, Truth, Life, Path to God & Heaven. Salvation in Jesus alone.
- All have sinned & need Jesus. Forgiveness is available to all who follow Jesus.
- The Bible is God’s Living Word. We believe His Word trustworthy. Therefore, we yield our lives to the authority of God’s Word.
- God the Father, God the Son, & God the Spirit. These 3 are One God.
- Yielding to God’s Holy Spirit in leading and transforming us into Christlikeness.
- The Church is Jesus’ Body – consisting of many members.
- As Jesus’ Body, the church gathers as often it can, especially on Sundays.
- Partaking in Jesus’ supper weekly to honor Him & His Sacrifice.
- Jesus will one day return for His Church – for those truly to be found in Him.
- Jesus, the Bible, & the Church are all connected together and can’t be separated.
- The power of prayer. We are a praying church & we pray as often as we breathe.
- Represent Jesus to the lost and one another. We love as Jesus loves us.
- Marriage is between one man and one woman the way God designed.
- There are two genders, male & female, the way God designed.
- God desires salvation over condemnation – for all to repent & come to His Son.
JESUS: THE WAY, TRUTH, & LIFE
Let’s start with Jesus & salvation. 1st, recognize that all are sinners in need of saving yet there is nothing we can do to save ourselves. Everyone is at the mercy God. 2nd, praise God for the good news of the Gospel where through GOD’s GREAT LOVE, He bestows His mercy, grace, and forgiveness through His Son - Salvation in Jesus alone: John 3:16-20; Romans 6:23; 1 Corinthians 15:1-7; Ephesians 2:8-10
- Therefore, when it comes to Jesus - He gives a simple invitation: “Follow Me!” It begins with hearing His teachings.
- - Matthew, 5,6,7 – all throughout the Gospel accounts and New Testament. It means believing in His teachings – that Jesus is WHO He claims He is. - John 3; John 8:24; John 14; Hebrews 11 It means confessing Jesus as Lord of your life – confessing the truth about yourself as a sinner in need of a Savior. - Proverbs 28:13; Matthew 10:32-33; Romans 3; Romans 10:9-10; 1 John 1 It means to repent – a complete change of mind when it comes to sin, turning your back in walking in the ways of this fallen world to walk in the ways of Christ. - Mark 1:15; Luke 13:3; Acts 3:19 & 17:30; 2 Peter 3:9 Hearing, believing, confessing, & repenting continue as we follow Jesus.
Moreover, Jesus’ simple invitation requires being born again. He says, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again” John 3:3. Jesus is clear - no one will enter or be part of the kingdom of God unless they are truly born again – you must be born from above. Jesus details that mankind must have a radical conversion from above which has two aspects that work together: born of water and the Spirit.
This process takes place at baptism - which is immersion in water for the forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit. Baptism represents being buried in Jesus’ death then rising from the waters as a new creation in Christ, which represents Jesus’ resurrection.
- Matthew 3; John 3:3-5; Acts 2:38 & 22:16; Romans 6:3-4; 1 Peter 3:18-22
- The moment we rise from the waters of baptism, we’ve proclaimed Jesus as Lord and Savior – that He has all our life. In fact, we are dead to our old-crucified nature to walk in the new nature that Jesus has given us through the Holy Spirit. We’ve turned our back on this fallen world to follow Jesus. Therefore, after baptism, God continues His work in us through His Holy Spirit and Word. This is called sanctification. This happens on daily basis through God’s Spirit & Word where God sets us apart from this fallen world and its ways for His purpose and glory.
- God’s desire for us is that we become holy as He is holy. This is the meaning of sanctification. Ultimately, God’s desire for you is to become more and more like Jesus. - 2 Corinthains 5:17; Romans 12:1-2; Galatians 2:20; Ephesians 4; Colossians 3; 1 Peter 1:13-25
Now, to become more and more like Jesus, we continue to honor His invitation to “Follow Me!”
To follow Jesus is to imitate Him. In fact, as God is sanctifying us on a daily basis through His Spirit & Word, we imitate Jesus by…
- Loving God & others: - Matthew 22:37-39; John 13:34; John 14; Romans 13:8: 1 Peter 4:8 Being faithful & obedient to God: - Luke 11:28; 16:10-12; John 3:36; 14:15; 2 Corinthians 5:7; Hebrew 11:6; Revelation 2:10 Dying to self – dying selfishness: - Mark 8:34-38; Philippians 2 Giving generously: - Psalm 112:5; Proverbs 11:24 -25; Matthew 5:38-42; Matthew 6:19-34; Mark 12:13-17, 41-44;
- Luke 6:38; 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 Bearing fruit for God’s glory - Matthew 7:17-20; John 15; Galatians 5:22-23 Submitting to God’s will: - Luke 22:39-46; Ephesians 5:21-33; Philippians 2; James 4:7-9; 1 Peter 5:1-11
- Serving God & His body of Believers (Church): - John 15:12-13; Romans 12:13; 1 Corinthians 12; 2 Corinthians 9:7; Galatians 5:13–14; Galatians 6:2;
- Ephesians 6:7–8, 18; Philippians 2:4, 14-15; 1 Thessalonians 5:1; Hebrews 13:16; 1 John 3:18 Praying for one another: - Matthew 19:13; Mark 14:38; Luke 22:32; John 17: Ephesians 6:10-20; Colossians 4:2; 1 Thessalonians 5:6-1;
- 1 Timothy 2:1; James 5:16; 1 Peter 5:8 Sharing His Good News & making more disciples: - Matthew 5:13-26; Matthew 9:10-17; Matthew 20:28; Matthew 28:18-20; Luke 19:1-10
- This list is not exhaustive rather a nice starting point for imitating Jesus
- Now, there is a lot more I could share with you. Yet, the more time you spend with Jesus in the Word of God, getting to know Him more and more, the more TRUTH will be revealed to you to be followed.
- However, it’s likely as you’ve read all written here, there is a great possibility that you realize you are not where you need to be in your walk with Christ. As a pastor, I still need Jesus every day – along with His grace, mercy, forgiveness, and lots of “do-overs.” In fact, one of the joys of gathering every Sunday as Jesus’ church is to start our week in the right way – resetting our focus on Christ and things above, not on this earth. Remember, everybody is welcome here no matter where you are in this life. Moreover, if you have any questions, comments, need to vent, need to dump some burdens, or like – we invite all discussion.
